Pittston, PA – More than a year after publicly downplaying a spike in homicides by suggesting it could always be worse and dismissing gang violence was nothing new to Northeastern Pennsylvania, Mayor Paige Cognetti continues to approach public safety with the same dismissive posture, even as violent crime keeps piling up on her watch.
Just in the last week:
A New York man allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend with a handgun during a domestic dispute at her home in Scranton, choking her and placing her in a headlock before fleeing the scene. Police later recovered illegal drugs during his arrest.
A 14-year-old was arrested for an attempted abduction near South Scranton Intermediate School after allegedly stealing a vehicle and attempting to recruit other juveniles into criminal activity.
Four juveniles allegedly attacked another minor with a weapon following an online dispute over the video game Fortnite, leaving the victim injured.
But fret not. According to Mayor Cognetti, it could always be worse and is nothing new.
