Yuma, Arizona—This past weekend, GOP Candidate Rob Bresnahan visited the U.S.-Mexico border in Yuma, Arizona, and saw firsthand the crisis at our southern border. While in Yuma, Rob visited Yuma’s Community Food Bank, Yuma’s Regional Medical Center, a Border Processing Center, and the AZ-CA-Mexico border.
Here are the main takeaways that Joe Biden and Matt Cartwright should immediately address if they were truly concerned about securing our southern border:
- There were 2.47 million encounters at the Southern Border in 2023, increasing over 40% since 2021.
- Hospitals like the Yuma Regional Medical Center are being overrun. They have
$26 million in uncompensated care, with any reimbursement being a fraction of what care to migrants actually cost. - Migrants are coming from countries that are adversaries of America, like China, Syria, and Venezuela, leaving border towns like Yuma to their pre-determined destinations.
- Cartels act as travel agents for migrants seeking to illegally enter America, often charging $5,000-$15,000 per migrant, and advertise their services on social media, billboards, and radio advertisements.
- 80% of border crossers turn themselves in, while the other 20% remain undocumented and could be a national security threat.
- President Biden has unused millions of dollars of President Trump’s border wall, yet hundreds of miles remain without one.
The trip was organized by Polaris National Security and attended by former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf, former Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State Morgan Ortagus, U.S. Senate and Congressional candidates from around the country, including U.S. Senate candidate Dave McCormick.

In response to his visit to the Southern Border, Rob Bresnahan added the following comment: “After traveling to our Southern Border, I am convinced more than ever that we have a major national security crisis on our hands and any effort to downplay this threat is downright reckless. Migrants who illegally cross the border often have final destinations in places like the 8th Congressional District, making every town in our district a border town. In order to reverse course, we must elect leaders who are serious about border security and putting America first, and I pledge to do just that.”
