Pittston, PA — Rob Bresnahan, Republican candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 8th District, issued the following statement after Republicans officially overtook Democrats in Luzerne County voter registration enrollment, marking a historic shift. This change follows a trend that began in 2016 and continues today.
“The people of Northeastern Pennsylvania have made it clear they are sick and tired of being taken for granted by the modern-day Democratic Party, which would be unrecognizable to the likes of Bill Clinton, JFK, and FDR,” said Rob Bresnahan. “This is a party that has prioritized open borders and crippling economic policies over safe communities and affordable everyday necessities. Hardworking, blue-collar voters are fed up with the endless broken promises of career politicians like six-term Congressman Matt Cartwright, and I’m committed to ensuring that, come Election Day, these people finally have a voice in Washington that puts them first.”
Once a Democratic stronghold, Luzerne County has seen a dramatic voter shift in recent years. In 2016, Democrats held a registration advantage of 33,317 voters. That advantage shrank to 18,992 by 2020, and today, Republicans officially lead with an 83-voter registration edge.
Bresnahan, a third-generation electrical contractor and proud union member, is running on a platform that focuses on securing the border, making life more affordable for working families, and putting Northeastern Pennsylvania first.
