Pittston, PA – Rob Bresnahan, Republican candidate for Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District, today announced the launch of the “Seniors for Bresnahan” Coalition, consisting of 40 seniors across the 8th Congressional District in Northeastern PA. The coalition will be co-chaired by Judy Zabel, a Lackawanna County resident, and Paul DeFabo, a Luzerne County Resident.
Bresnahan, meanwhile, has pledged unequivocally that he will not support any cuts to Social Security or Medicare, emphasizing his dedication to protecting the benefits that seniors have earned.
In recent weeks, however, Congressman Cartwright has made supporting the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) an all-or-nothing litmus test in the race for Pennsylvania’s 8th District regarding the support of seniors. The IRA, however, not only slashed $307 billion from Medicare funding to pay for unrelated initiatives, but it also included a redesign of the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit. As a result, seniors’ Part D premiums have risen by 21.5% this year—the largest increase in the program’s history—with rates projected to double in 2025. Cartwright also stood by as Biden cut Medicare advantage for seniors in PA.
“I’m proud to support Rob Bresnahan because he’s been clear from the start: he will never cut Social Security or raise the retirement age,” said Judy Zabel. “Unlike Congressman Cartwright, who supported a law that cut Medicare and raised our costs, Rob is committed to standing up for seniors and protecting the benefits we’ve earned.”
“Rob Bresnahan made a promise months ago that he would never cut Social Security or raise the retirement age, and that’s exactly the kind of leadership we need,” said Paul DeFabo. “Congressman Cartwright’s support for the Inflation Reduction Act has only made things harder for seniors by raising premiums and limiting our access to essential medications. We need Rob, who will fight to keep Social Security and Medicare strong.”
